On the official site for the film, there are secret messages when the trailer is fast-forwarded or rewound. Additionally, after the trailer finishes playing, the baby appears in the mirror but isn't present in the nursery. Also in the mirror, letters written in what seems to blood spell a message. After flipping the picture horizontally, the message says, "What is happening to Hunter?" This film was announced shortly after Paranormal Activity (2007) was released into theaters. Shipped to theaters under the code name "Sharpie 79".

Anachronisms: The movie is set in 2006, but during one of the earlier scenes before the 'Demon' attacks, the TV is seen in the background of the kitchen and the Dyson advert that was released in 2009 is clearly visible.Continuity: When the teenage daughter is alone at the house babysitting Hunter, she hears a knock at the door and goes outside to investigate then the door slams behind her. The view we get from the CCTV Camera clearly has the time in the bottom right hand corner. But when the daughter shows the CCTV tape back to her dad there is no time in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.Continuity: In one scene in the kitchen, from the overhead security camera you can see a cutting board with what looks like lemons and a knife on it. When it cuts to another camera and then back again the cutting board is gone, then after the next cut it returns.Incorrectly regarded as goofs: At one point, Dan jokingly says he intends to "release the Kraken". This is a reference to the original Clash of the Titans (1981), not the 2010 remake, and is therefore not an anachronism.Continuity: In the scene where Kristi is in the kitchen reading her magazine whilst the kettle boils, she has a cup beside her. The cupboards fly open and she screams and runs from the room to return later to find the room how she left it. But you can clearly see the cup is not where she left it, or anywhere in sight for that matter.Continuity: When the family comes home to a trashed house and are exploring rooms, saying "don't touch anything" we see the letter R on Hunter's door (spelling "HUNTER") is missing, with a folded piece of scotch tape visible where the R used to be. In subsequent shots during the walk-through, the letter is there.Continuity: The letters on Hunter's door are taped on (as seen when the "R" is missing and a square of scotch tape is in its place during the walkthrough of the vandalized house). However, the word "HUNTER" changes from being straight to slanted to having even or uneven spacing throughout the movie, which would be understandable if they were magnetic, and not taped in place.Continuity: In the scene when Martine is taking incense all throughout the house, the pots/pans hanging up change color/shape.Continuity: When Ali is locked outside and tries to come in from the back door we can clearly see that the curtain is folded to the side but after another shot the window is covered.Continuity: During the time viewing the basement door after Kristi is pulled down, you can see the curtains by the window moving. The next morning there are no curtains on the window.
